The story of Light and Shadow

Once upon a time, there was a brother and a sister who could never meet. The brother was called Light, and he could play only during the day. The sister was called Shadow, and she could play only at night.

Their mother loved them, but she was exhausted from the lack of sleep. She started crying so much that she turned herself into a river. The river flowed day and night. She did not have to sleep anymore, so she could always hug her children. Light and Shadow learned to speak with the river, and she was always there for them.

Still, the children missed each other.

“I want to play with my sister,” said Light during the day.

“But my brother is always asleep,” Shadow complained at night.

The river swirled, and foamed, and pondered. In search of a solution, she tried so hard that she almost totally evaporated. She flew up to the sky. There she became a cloud that could speak to the Sun.

“I will help you,” the Sun said, “but only for a few moments.”

That’s how the eclipse was created. Now, when the eclipse comes, Light and Shadow can meet and play near the river. They laugh, hug, and share their news.

When the eclipse is over, everyone returns to their own world, where only one at a time is awake. But both now know that their love never sleeps.
